Hestia, at the time had embarked on its most ambitious development, located in the core of the new suburb of Seton. Conveniently located across from the new South Health Campus on the urban and pedestrian friendly Market Street. Our vision was to create a unique, multi-generational community for the retiring ‘Baby Boomer’ generation, the 250 staff working at the hospital and the vibrant, young population of Seton.
Seton Seniors Community is a multi-phased development. A 6-storey concrete supportive living building in the middle of the site has already been built and was occupied in summer of 2016, a 5-storey wood frame 86 unit market apartment building (SoHo at Seton) on the west is scheduled for construction in spring of 2017 and a 4-storey wood frame 70-unit seniors’ apartment building on the east scheduled for construction in spring of 2018.
The supportive living building also has a child day care centre in the building that is available for staff as well as the Seton community. SoHo at Seton will be a separate building with communal amenities such as a community garden. The seniors’ apartment wing will be linked to the supportive living wing at the main level. The development has underground parking for staff and residents and surface parking for visitors. Professionally landscaped courtyards and green space will provide the residents safe and inviting outdoor space. The courtyards and the green spaces when completed will add ‘vibrancy’ and ‘liveliness’ to the Market Street edge and promote interaction between the residents and the community.
